Harris Theater Presents
The Harris Theater is dedicated to presenting internationally acclaimed music and dance organizations, and through the Harris Theater Presents series has gained widespread recognition as a vital cultural anchor in Chicago.
Programming spans five unique series, engaging audiences of all ages with the most diverse offerings of any performing arts venue in Chicago.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and uncertainty surrounding artist travel and visas, all Harris Theater Presents performances scheduled for the fall of 2020 have been postponed. Details about each series can be found below. While the 2020–21 HTP season won’t begin until January, the Harris Theater will open for performances when it is safe to do so, and in accordance with the COVID-19 reopening guidelines mandated by the city and state. We are working closely with local Resident Companies to retain their fall performance schedules with the hope that the state and city reopening guidelines allow those engagements to move forward.
Harris Theater Presents mainstage
Each year, the Harris Theater presents a curated season of music and dance, featuring innovative artists and epic productions from around the world. The 2020–21 HTP Mainstage season will include the international premiere of Akram Khan’s newest work for English National Ballet, Creature; the Chicago debut of Cape Town Opera in the powerful Mandela Trilogy; an expanded series of vocal recitals; and more.
Please note that due to uncertainty about the impact of COVID-19 — especially when it comes to artist travel and visas — we have made the difficult decision to postpone a number of performances planned for this fall. Chamber Music Series
The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center (CMS) returns for its tenth season in residence. The series also includes a special performance by the Percussion Collective. Faced with uncertainty in the months ahead about the impact of COVID-19 — especially when it comes to artist travel and visas — we have decided to adjust the two CMS performances scheduled for this fall. Spanish Inspirations will be replaced by a special performance for subscribers, streamed live from New York, and the From Vienna to Prague program scheduled for December has been moved to January 14, 2021. MIX AT SIX
Beginning at 6:00PM, Mix at Six is the series the Chicago Tribune says, “ups the cultural ante considerably,” featuring high-energy, relaxed, fast-paced programs after work and opportunities for audiences to engage with featured performers. Drink specials and food will be available for purchase from HT concessions and pop-up food vendors. All Mix at Six performances are about 60–75 minutes in length.
Unfortunately, faced with uncertainty in the months ahead about the impact of COVID-19 — especially when it comes to artist travel and visas — we have made the difficult decision to postpone a number of performances. Please click on the link below for the most current information on the 2020–21 Mix at Six season.
Family Series performances offer high-quality, engaging programming designed to cultivate the next generation of arts lovers. These hour-long performances are designed for children ages 4 and older and fun for the entire family, with opportunities to meet and interact with artists following each performance. And as always, audiences are encouraged to laugh, clap, and experience the theater in their own way — no shushing allowed!
Unfortunately, faced with uncertainty in the months ahead about the impact of COVID-19 — especially when it comes to artist travel and visas — we have made the difficult decision to postpone a number of performances including the presentation of CMS: Albert and Wolfgang scheduled for October. Beyond the Aria
Produced by The Harris Theater for Music and Dance, in association with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Beyond the Aria pairs internationally celebrated opera singers of Lyric’s mainstage alongside rising stars from The Ryan Opera Center. Each performance is a one-night-only experience where artists perform a repertoire of their choosing — each is customized by the featured artists — and may include Broadway, American Songbook, jazz, and more. These intimate performances take place “cabaret style,” seated on the enclosed stage of the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park.
The 2020-21 Beyond the Aria artists and dates will be announced at a later date.
