Puerto Rican Arts Alliance

The Orquesta Filarmónica de Puerto Rico Big Band Ensemble is made up of eighteen top musicians dedicated to celebrating the big band era of Puerto Rican music. Considered one of Puerto Rico’s cultural treasures, the group’s mission is to serve as a cultural bridge between generations and to link the musical heritage of Puerto Rico with diverse musical influences from around the world. Founded by the renowned pianist, composer and conductor Don Arturo Somohano, the ensemble’s parent orchestra entitled – the Philharmonic Orchestra, made its first appearance in 1950 at San Juan’s Tapia Theater.
