The St. John Passion
Music of the Baroque
Timeless works, boundless passion, superb artistry and high-energy concerts characterize Music of the Baroque.
One of the few groups of its stature in the country devoted to the performance of eighteenth-century works, Music of the Baroque is consistently positioned among Chicago’s leading classical music groups. Opera News calls Music of the Baroque “one of Chicago’s musical glories” and the Chicago Sun-Times writes, “Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra may be the big guys on the local classical music scene, but in terms of sheer quality of performance…Music of the Baroque inhabits the same stratosphere.”
Under the direction of internationally acclaimed British conductor Jane Glover, Music of the Baroque has presented Chicago audiences with premier and revival presentations of early masterpieces, drawing particular praise for its performances of the major choral works of J. S. Bach and Handel.
The 2017-18 season is filled with some of the greatest music ever written—played and sung by superb musicians whose joy in making music together comes shining through in every performance. Don’t miss a note of what critics have called a “cultural jewel,” an ensemble that has been bringing Chicago audiences to their feet for more than 40 years.
