Chicago Philharmonic & Cirque de la Symphonie
The Chicago Philharmonic is a collaboration of over 200 of the highest-level classical musicians performing in the Chicago metropolitan area. Founded in 1988 by principal musicians from the Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra, the Chicago Philharmonic consistently wins accolades from music critics and audiences alike. Their symphonic and chamber concerts at locations throughout the Chicago area cover the full spectrum of classical music, from Bach to Britten and beyond. Governed under a groundbreaking structure of musician leadership, the Chicago Philharmonic’s mission is to excite, engage, and transform diverse audiences with the beauty and power of great music.
Through outreach initiatives such as the Chi Phil AMP (Academy of Music Performance), Families to the Phil, and NEXT!, the orchestra connects Chicago-area youth to classical music and provides public performance opportunities for exceptional young musicians. Side by Side with the Chicago Philharmonic programs, presented as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks, bring the orchestral art form to wide-ranging audiences throughout the city in a participatory setting.
The Chicago Philharmonic proudly serves as a resident company at the Harris Theater, the official orchestra for the Joffrey Ballet, and a decades-long associate of the Ravinia Festival. The orchestra is a regular collaborator with musicians across classical and popular music, having worked with such artists as Joshua Bell, Itzhak Perlman, Lady Gaga, and Johnny Mathis.
