Canceled: Mix at Six: The Kingdom Choir

The Kingdom Choir

Earlier this week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker extended the ban on public gatherings of over 50 people to May 10, 2020, in line with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Similar bans have been issued in cities throughout the United States including New York and Los Angeles, as well as well as in much of Europe and the United Kingdom.

As a result, The Kingdom Choir’s North American tour has been canceled, including the planned performances at the Harris on April 17 and 18. Ticket holders will be contacted by a representative of our box office in the coming weeks about the disposition of tickets. We ask that you consider converting your purchase to a fully tax-deductible donation to the Theater during this challenging time. If you have any questions regarding ticket donations, exchanges, or refunds you may contact our box office at info@harristheaterchicago.org

Experience the world-renowned voices of The Kingdom Choir (TKC), the ensemble that pairs popular music with gospel traditions that reflect their community in Southeast London. The group — which regularly tours around the world and throughout England — has performed before world leaders and luminaries, including Queen Elizabeth II, Bill Clinton, Desmond Tutu, and Nelson Mandela. In 2018, The Kingdom Choir captivated audiences with their chilling performance at the Royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Prior to performing in front of nearly 2 billion people at the Royal wedding, the largest audience TKC had performed to was just 200 people.

The choir was founded in 1994 by award-winning conductor Karen Gibson. Over the past 20 years, The Kingdom Choir has become known for its united sound, warm energy, and enthusiastic performance and has proved to be a sterling example of the unity within the British gospel community.

Beginning at 6PM, Mix at Six is the series the Chicago Tribune said “ups the cultural ante considerably,” featuring high energy, fast-paced programs after work and opportunities for audiences to engage with featured performers. Specialty cocktails and food will be available for purchase in the lobby from HT concessions and pop-up food vendors.

The approximate run time of this performance is 60 minutes with no intermission.
