Canceled: Mix at Six: Compagnie Hervé KOUBI
The Barbarian Nights or The First Dawns of the World

Compagnie Hervé KOUBI

Thank you for your interest in Compagnie Hervé KOUBI. Unfortunately, faced with uncertainty in the months ahead about the impact of COVID-19 — especially when it comes to artist travel and visas — we have made the difficult decision to postpone a number of performances. This includes Compagnie Hervé KOUBI. We are in process of rescheduling this performance to be part of our 21–22 season. We appreciate your patience as we work with the artists to finalize new dates during this time.

Following this and other changes to the season, Mix at Six will now be a four-performance series. Please visit our Mix at Six subscription page to learn more about the remaining performances in this season’s series. If you are a Mix at Six subscriber, you will be contacted via email. If you do not receive the email or have any other questions, please contact our box office at

The Barbarian Nights or The First Dawns of the World is a work on the origins of Mediterranean culture, a rewriting that brings to the stage the fear of strangers and reveals the hidden refinement of cultures often referred to as “barbarian.” The 13 male dancers whirl their dark skirts, leap, and brandish knives under their crystal-encrusted headgear to music by Wagner, Mozart, and Fauré, mixed with Algerian sounds. Of Algerian roots, Hervé Koubi grew up in France and studied at the University of Aix-en-Provence and later at the Rosella Hightower School of Dance in Cannes. Since 2010, he has been working with his company of 12 to 14 male virtuoso street dancers from North Africa on works including What the Day Owes to The Night, The Barbarian Nights or The First Dawns of the World, and Boys Don’t Cry. Koubi also serves as Associate Choreographer at the Pole National Supérieur de Danse in France and in 2015 was awarded the French medal of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres for his contributions to French culture.

Beginning at 6:00PM, Mix at Six is the series the Chicago Tribune says “ups the cultural ante considerably,” featuring high-energy, relaxed, fast-paced programs after work and opportunities for audiences to engage with featured performers. Drink specials and food will be available for purchase from HT concessions and pop-up food vendors. All Mix at Six performances are about 60–75 minutes in length.
