Beyond the Aria

Beyond the Aria pianist and series artistic director Craig Terry joined soprano Susanna Phillips, tenor Eric Ferring, and bass-baritone David Weigel for a virtual installment of this unique and intimate series, recorded in May 2020. Typically held on the stage of the Pritzker Pavilion overlooking Millennium Park, Beyond the Aria is presented in partnership with Lyric Opera of Chicago, and features opera luminaries alongside rising stars from The Patrick and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center - performing everything from soaring arias to jazz and American songbook selections.

Beyond the Aria, produced by the Harris in association with Lyric Opera of Chicago, offers audiences a one-night-only experience with some of the greatest operatic talents of our generation in an intimate, “cabaret style” setting, typically presented on the enclosed stage of the Pritzker Pavilion at Millennium Park. The artists perform a program of their choosing which may include opera, art song, Broadway standards, folk song, jazz, and more, with piano accompaniment by Beyond the Aria’s Artistic Director and pianist Craig Terry. Each program presents a unique opportunity for the artists to perform in duet or trio, and is always a surprise for audiences to experience together.
