For one night only, one of the world’s leading dancers joins a poet and an all-star collective to bring a masterpiece into the modern age. Making its Chicago debut, Carnival of the Animals navigates today's political jungle through poetry, dance, and music in its Chicago debut. Spoken word artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph and legendary dancer Wendy Whelan take the stage together, delivering an acutely necessary reflection on our shifting societal values. The performance features a vivid reimaging of Camille Saint-Saëns' classical composition of the same name, reworked by composer Sugar Vendil. 

Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens

Under the leadership of artistic director Rhiannon Giddens, Silkroad Ensemble illuminates the impact of immigrant communities on the transcontinental railroad in American Railroad. Chinese traditional music contrasts the fiddle and banjo of Black musical traditions and their Indigenous and Celtic counterparts. These cultural intersections reveal a thread of commonality despite their caried origins and remind us of the intricately rich American story.
