South Chicago Dance Theatre presents its ninth annual home season concert, celebrating the organization’s return to the Harris Theater For Music and Dance on May 1, 2026. The evening features 3 world premieres by the incomparable Bessie and Guggenheim award winning David Dorfman; Creative Director at San Francisco Symphony, choreographer, film maker and composer Natasha Adorlee, a new work from SCDT Resident Choreographer Kia S. Smith and a bonus –“It Begins” by Dance Magazine honoree Donald Byrd. This electric evening is paired with South Chicago Dance Theatre’s inaugural Legacy Builders Benefit. Legacy Builders are invited to attend an exclusive intermission reception with the artists and an after party at the venue following the performance.

ABOUT SOUTH CHICAGO DANCE THEATRE

South Chicago Dance Theatre (SCDT) is a multicultural organization seamlessly fusing classical and contemporary dance styles as well as preserving historic dance work. With Choreographic Diplomacy™ at the heart of the organization, SCDT creates, performs, and teaches dance on a local, national, and international platform. Since the 2017 launch, the Main Company has toured regionally, nationally and internationally to the Netherlands, South America, South Korea and Vietnam and commissioned the choreographic work of renowned artists. Its collaborative initiatives have included music ensembles, television, opera, art museums and public schools through a range of performances and educational programs. Smith has been honored with a 3Arts Make A Wave Award, a Chicago Dancemakers Forum Lab Artist Award, she participated in the Choreography Fellowship at the School at Jacob’s Pillow and was named one of Dance Magazine’s 25 to Watch for 2024. The Berkshire Eagle lauds SCDT “a company to watch in 2025 and beyond” and Smith was recently named a “breakout artist” by WBEZ Chicago.
